MOOC

MOOC is the acronym of Massive Open Online Course, and the online course aimed at unlimited participation and open access via the web.

While traditional online courses charge tuition and limit enrollment to ensure interaction with teachers, this is normally free and massive. Anyone with an internet connection can enroll and feedback is possible.

The best advantage of the MOOC is that it is possible for anyone to attend lectures by the world's well-known scholars from top universities almost free of charge. The famous sites are Coursera and Udacity. I took some lessons from those. I think that the lectures are organized systemically and helpful except that those are delivered in English.

I guess, if this systems is widespread, inequality in education resulting from the gap between the rich and the poor might be alleviated.

MOOC 는 Massive Open Online Course 의 약자로, 웹을 통해서 무제한의 참여와 자유롭게 접근하는 것을 추구하는 온라인 교육과정이다.

기존의 온라인 교육은 수강료를 지불해야 하고 강사와의 상호작용을 보장하기 위해서 가입을 제한했지만, MOOC 는 일반적으로 무료이고, 방대하다. 인터넷 연결이 가능한 사람 누구나 가입할 수 있고, 피드백도 받을 수 있다. 

MOOC 의 가장 큰 장점은 누구나 최고의 대학의 세계적으로 유명한 학자의 강의를 거의 무료로 참여할 수 있다는 점이다. 가장 유명한 곳으로 코세라와 유데이시티가 있다. 나도 그 사이트들로부터 강의를 들은 적이 있다. 강의가 체계적이고 도움이 많이 되었던 것 같다. 영어로 된 강의가 대부분이라는 점만 제외하면...

나는 이 시스템이 널리 퍼지면, 가난한 자와 부자 간의 차이로 나타나는 교육이 불평등 문제도 경감시킬 수 있을 것이라 생각한다.
